Black Leather and Blue Denim, A ‘50s Novel Black Leather and Blue Denim, A ‘50s Novel Download a Free Sample eBook Summary: 436 Pages -- Black Leather and Blue Denim is a '50s novel about greaser gang conflict in Levittown, Pennsylvania. J.W. narrates the story. J.W. (age twelve) and his family move into the Dogwood Hollow section of Levittown in the spring of '54. He soon makes friends with Carnie, the neurotic son of a carnival barker, and Tinker, a mechanically inclined, vindictive kid with destructive tendencies. The three boys are picked on and harassed by older greasers from Kenwood, another section of Levittown ... Black Leather and Blue Denim, A '50s Novel is adult literature for anyone who loves 1950s' teen culture, and it might just be the ultimate '50s book that captures the innocence of teen' life and also the danger, the adventure and the tragedy of '50s greaser' gang conflict. The story involves a turf/power struggle between two Pennsylvania greaser' gangs, the Diablos and the Kamikazes. The K's are a band of ruthless thugs that terrorize eggheads ('50s brainiacs), jocks and other greasers. J.W. organizes the Diablos to protect his friends and himself from the barbaric Kamikazes. The music, hot cars, the drag races, the slang, the drive-in movies, the hang outs, the malt shops, the sock hops, the popular pinball machines and intense rivalry and competition between greaser gangs is all realistically represented. BL&BD is a nostalgic look back toward an age of innocence where the so-called "Happy Days" might have been just as dangerous as teen life is today. Reader Review: Rating: 5 Stars Dedicated "for all those who like or love the 1950's, but especially for all those who had actually lived them," is a spectacular book written by talented and multi-published author Jay Dubya. This lengthy novel (in a good way) of 147,000 words and with fifty-seven chapters, is adult literature that details the purity of teenage life in the 1950's. It is filled with danger, adventure, violence between gang members, and even romance. BLACK LEATHER and BLUE DENIM takes place in the suburbs of Pennsylvania and depicts territorial and dominance struggle between two specific greaser gangs, the Diablos and the Kamikazes. The Kamikazes are a group of thugs that love to pick on eggheads, other wise known as nerds, jocks, and especially other greasers. J.W., who organized the Diablos to protect him and his friends from the Kamikazes, likes a girl named Angie Palermo. She is the daughter of a Mafia drug and pornography distributor who has business relations with the Kamikazes. Because J. W. and Angie are on two different ends of the spectrum, so to speak, their affair is filled with lies, unfaithfulness, and hostility. Throughout the book, teenage gangster frivolities occur and it soon rises to critical circumstances. Even more trouble arises when Quinn, the leader of the Diablos, makes friends with a young black man named Marcus who works on Quinn's car. After some time, Marcus is asked by Quinn to join the Diablos. Now remember this is during the time-period where basically everyone, including adults, stuck with their own. Naturally, J.W. isn't happy about Quinn's decision, and his anger escalates when Marcus and his family move into his neighborhood--an all white community. Not backing down on his decision, Quinn and the Diablos help Marcus fight against the acts of racism. As I read the book, I was often taken to my teenage years when the movie "The Outsiders" was an often talked about event. I loved it. Mr. Dubya has successfully put together a book addressing touchy subjects such as: racism, sex, violence, and where males in the 1950's thought they ruled. He's added tons of exciting action, the characters are realistic, and the dialogue is perfect to the character's personalities and descriptions. Review: PIECES OF EIGHT is a collection of eight remarkably creative novellas, with such themes as: general fiction, fiction, horror, thriller, paranormal, astrology, drama, inspirational, and humor--something for everyone! One of my favorite stories is Winslow Junction. This is the story of one family's nightmare. Their little boy, Casey, has a unique power and he loves trains...maybe a little too much! All of the stories in PIECES OF EIGHT are based in different parts of the world, giving the reader, not only a taste of different places, but of the different people within them. Pieces of Eight, Part II Download a Free Sample eBook Summary: 145 Pages -- Pieces of Eight, Part II is a collection of eight novellas that complement the eight stories that appear in Pieces of Eight. The selections are a blend of different short story and novella plots and themes. "A Noble Experiment," and "Inspiration for All," which takes place in Hammonton, New Jersey, are of the science fiction variety. "Obadiah Bush, Gene Alter and Branche Sawyer" represents futuristic humor and time traveling. "Dual Events" explores a reincarnation/revenge theme, and is set in Bermuda, where the author and his wife have vacationed. "Loyalty to Duty" involves an astrological prophecy fulfillment plot. "A Day to Forget" is a psychological drama, and "Death and Taxes" is a horror-oriented drama, set in the Delmarva peninsula. "July 4th, 2076" is a futuristic sci/fi/adventure/drama, set in Colorado's Rocky Mountains. Review: PIECES OF EIGHT: Part 2 is the second book by Jay Dubya featuring a collection of eight novellas, and short stories that will suit just about any reader’s taste. The selections include such genres as inspirational, science fiction, astrology, drama, horror, adventure, fantasy, and much more, with such themes as: futuristic humor, time travel, reincarnation, and revenge. One of my favorites is the story DUAL EVENTS that captures coincidence after coincidence. It's about a frequent traveling couple, Hamilton and Joanne Alexander who travel to Bermuda in July. Hamilton finds himself deeply disturbed by a fellow passenger, Nolan Phillips. Hamilton's sixth sense tells him there's something amiss with this fellow's character and his intentions. Was he right? Always trust your sixth sense, I say. It isn't jealous, blind, or ignorant in any way...it knows. Is reincarnation real or imagined? Throughout the story, Hamilton is told that he has a familiar face. Mr. Dubya used Alexander Hamilton's description on the U.S. ten dollar bill as the character's physical look-alike. I found myself searching in my wallet for a ten-dollar bill! Jay Dubya is the writing name of John Wiessner, an extremely talented children's author. Ron Coyote, Man of La Mangia Download A Free Sample eBook Summary: 384 Pages -- Ron Coyote, Man of La Mangia is adult literature featuring adult humor. The novel is a satire/parody of Miguel Cervantes’s Don Quixote, published in 1605. Jay Dubya assumes the pseudonym Sir Vantes. Ron Coyote is a wealthy peach and apple farmer in Hammonia, New Jersey. His main foreman is a short chunky man named Pancho Sanza. Pancho represents the practical side of human existence, and Ron Coyote the dreamer and the idealist. Ron Coyote loves a school crossing guard, Della Cinnea, but she can’t stand him. The rich farmer and Pancho travel around in a black ’38 Plymouth called Roachinante, and they also fly to Philadelphia and over Washington DC in Ron Coyote’s World War I vintage biplane, Roachinante II. Ron Coyote is influenced by a televangelist, Calvin Mather, who preaches that America must return to the colonial values of its Founding Fathers. As a joke, Pancho buys Ron Coyote a Pilgrim’ suit, which the Man of La Mangia takes seriously and wears every day. Ron Coyote enlists Pancho in his campaign to change the world and rid it of sin and crime. The employer promises Sanza a new shack with flush toilets, and Pancho’s wife insists that the foreman accompany Ron Coyote on his great mission. Ron Coyote dedicates his great quest to Della Cinnea. He and Pancho have many great adventures and conflicts with the United States Army, Arabs, tramps, rowdy teenagers, Della Cinnea, hippies, the Mafia, and even Calvin Mather. The novel has many twists and turns and more than several surprises, too. There are several dozen parallels Sir Vantes uses in Man of La Mangia that are similar to elements in Miguel Cervantes’ classic novel. Ron Coyote, Man of La Mangia is adult literature and it is not written for or to be read by children.
