Applegate's Mill

Applegate's Mill

eBook Summary:

Applegate's Mill is Book 7 of the Happenings in River Bend Series

A small town developed along the banks of the river where the current was caught between Rock Mountain and a deposit of volcanic stone. The fast-moving river had rushed through the mountains of central Arkansas, barreling through Jacksonville, the county seat, and coursing rapidly through a deep channel for the next twelve miles. There remnants of an ancient volcano turned the river in upon itself, creating a twisting current which circled the mountain. That became the site of the town of River Bend. It began as an overnight camp for those travelers who could not manage the last twelve miles into town. It gradually grew to feature a general store, The Mercantile, a Pharmacy operated by the Markham's, a cafe, a church and several other business establishments, including the male hangout and loafer's club, the River Bend Livery Stable.

Residential cabins were build along the river banks, and later were sprinkled about the mountains on either side. The central focus points of the town were the church, and its weekly gathering of ladies who met under the guise of 'quilting', the livery stable, where every man could feel welcome, and perhaps pick up a scrap of information (not gossip!) before the ladies did, and the other focus was the school.

Built by the townsfolk on donated land, the school enjoyed a reverence which was begun by parents who had no schooling themselves, and, along with the preacher, the school teacher was one of the most respected members of the community. The city fathers knew they were lucky to get 21 year old Mr. Wilson to replace their revered Mr. Campbell who taught for more than thirty years before retiring. But Mr. Wilson had his problems, and they had nothing to do with the teaching of the children.

Each book in the series stands alone, but they all share their setting, and their association with others of the town.

The Cabin on the Bluff

The Cabin on the Bluff

eBook Summary:
Carie was never one to leave a job unfinished, and though her body had long since been committed to the ground, she was unable to leave the site of her cabin. There seemed to be something left that she must do before she could join her husband and sons. A tender, though unbreakable, tie still tethered her spirit to the cabin where Zeb had brought her as a bride. At the end of life, that which is unimportant falls away, like tree leaves in the fall, but that grain of truth that is left must be passed along, or what was that life worth?

The Diary

The Diary

The Diary - Part of the Ranch on the Tall Grass Prarie Series

The golden coyotes knew that the Tall Grass Prairie belonged to them, but they shared it with the people who lived in the tipi village, and later they shared their prairie with a girl who found a message that had been hidden for more than a century.

Ranch on the Tall Grass Prarie
This series, Ranch on the Tall Grass Prarie, is about the land located in the Oklahoma Panhandle, about the people who lived there, and about the animals that lived there with them. Each book begins with the lives of the first Americans and finishes with the Bradford Brothers Ranch, the "BB", and the modern family who occupy it. It covers education first taught by the old people of the tribe, and then by the Internet.

The world changes, people change, but the animals do not change.

The wolf still pursues the elk, the owl seeks out the snake, and the young people still have adventures on the wonderful animal called the horse. Even though new animals are added as the years pass, the emu, the llama, and the long-haired goats do not change. The habits of the black-footed ferret who lives on the bounty of the prairie dog town don't change, and the eagle is still strong enough to carry away a calf, if it can avoid the weapons of it's longhorn mother.

Stories of Uncle Raymond Red Hawk

Stories of Uncle Red Hawk - Part of the Ranch on the Tall Grass Prarie Series

On the high meadow beside the box canyon, the old Storyteller tells the ancient stories of his people, and two centuries later, a thirteen year old girl uses the stories and adds some of her own.

Ranch on the Tall Grass Prarie
This series, Ranch on the Tall Grass Prarie, is about the land located in the Oaklahoma Panhandle, about the people who lived there, and about the animals that lived there with them.

Two Hearts Friendship Club

Two Hearts Friendship Club

eBook Summary:

Two Hearts Friendship Club is Book 12 of the Happenings in River Bend Series
