About the Author: Joe Coelho is an Associate Professor of Biology at Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri, where he teaches biology classes and performs research on the physiological ecology of insects. His career as an outdoor writer is a sideline. His column, "The Sporting Life," garnered a number of awards in the Illinois Press Association's annual competition in the Class A Sports Column category.
